Our basic philosophy of education centers on the “whole student” in order to:

1. Accurately assess each student’s needs and learning style with a thorough diagnostic evaluation so that an appropriate individualized educational program can be created
2. Facilitate student independence by developing learning/coping strategies based on “What Works” for each student
3. Create a learning environment in which the student finds success and gains self-confidence so that he/she is able to function successfully at school and on the job

Diagnostic Services

• Each student is given an initial diagnostic evaluation in order to determine specific educational needs. Educational, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social factors are taken into consideration
• Students are periodically re-evaluated in order to determine progress and to review their individual educational program

Instruction

• Following a thorough diagnostic assessment, an individualized educational program is developed for each student, based upon specific needs, learning styles, and personal short and long-term goals
• Determining “What Works” for each student is a major goal of instructions
• Learning therapy is presented in a one-on-one student/learning therapist ratio
• A wide variety of materials and methods, as well as specialized equipment, including computers, are utilized
• Emphasis is placed on fostering student independence through a focus on developing learning and coping strategies
• Parents, teachers, physicians, and referral agencies are kept informed of student progress through oral and written communication as well as through staffing when appropriate
